Mass Effect: Andromeda companion revealed to be straight; fans lose their minds

Mass Effect has been known to cater to the LGBT community with same-sex romances, so fans would expect the tough-as-nails Cora Harper to be attracted to the female gender. Apparently, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Cora claimed in a gameplay video that she isn’t into chicks. Of course, the fans went into an angry fervor.

While I can understand the disappointment in not being able to fulfill your fantasy with a female Pathfinder and Cora doing the no-pants dance, the comments that some fans have made are just downright disgusting. Some have stated that she should be a lesbian because of her haircut or the fact that she acts butch. One Tumblr user claimed that he would commit suicide because of Cora’s sexual orientation. I am utterly appalled that people would stoop to this level of pettiness over a video game character.

If we remember back to the first Mass Effect game, Kaiden Alenko was not romancable as a male Shep, but in Mass Effect 3 he was. BioWare knows what they’re doing – they have been in the business forever – so the fans should just calm down until this new series unfolds. Besides, the Asari are a “love the one you’re with” type of species so you can still have your lesbian love scenes. Don’t blame Cora for not wanting to do the sideways tango with another woman, she can’t help it. She was born this way.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is available on March 21st for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
